The Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology celebrates the collaboration between Eyenuk, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Henrietta Johnson Medical Center to improve access to eye disease screening for underserved communities in Delaware. Using the EyeArt® AI Eye Screening system, primary care providers at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are now able to detect diabetic retinopathy, a leading cause of blindness. This initiative particularly targets low-income, minority, and diabetic populations who have limited access to specialist care. In its early months, the program revealed alarming rates of undiagnosed diabetic retinopathy, emphasizing the critical need for accessible screening. The Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology supports this effort to reduce preventable blindness and improve overall health outcomes for Delawareans, advocating for the continued expansion of such programs throughout the state.
